Joby Aviation, a developer of electric air taxis for commercial passenger service, has signed an agreement to acquire a new manufacturing facility in the Dayton, Ohio region, marking a significant step in the company’s production scale-up strategy. The facility spans more than 700,000 square feet and is ready for immediate use, with operations expected to begin later this year.
The new site will initially support Joby’s plan to double production to four aircraft per month by 2027, while also providing capacity for substantial long-term growth. It complements Joby’s existing manufacturing footprint in California and Ohio, reinforcing a geographically diversified and resilient U.S. production network.
JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby Aviation, stated that the site will support near-term production doubling and serve as a base for significant future growth, turning a decade of engineering into the manufacturing scale the market now demands. He noted that Dayton—home to the world’s first aircraft factory and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base—has long been at the center of aerospace innovation, and that Ohio’s reindustrialization and strong government support are central to building next-generation commercial and defense aircraft in America.
The announcement follows recent manufacturing milestones. In July 2025, Joby completed an expansion of its Marina, California facility, and in October confirmed the start of propeller blade production in Ohio. The company has begun procuring capital equipment and is actively hiring in California to enable round-the-clock manufacturing operations.
Ohio leaders welcomed Joby’s investment. Mike DeWine noted that Joby’s expansion brings together the state’s aviation legacy with an advanced manufacturing workforce. Joby’s Ohio expansion also coincides with increasing policy momentum, including a national AAM strategy from the U.S. Department of Transportation and preparations for the FAA’s eVTOL Integration Pilot Program in 2026, laying groundwork for large-scale electric air taxi deployment.
