Boeing and Anduril’s Midrange Interceptor Advances in U.S. Army Competition

The U.S. Army has selected Boeing and Anduril to advance to the next phase of competition for the Integrated Fires Protection Capability (IFPC) Increment 2 Second Interceptor, built to protect fixed and forward operating bases from cruise missiles, militarized drones, and related aerial threats.

China, Russia, and Iran have spent the last decade fielding cheap, mass-producible cruise missiles and drones built to empty American magazines faster than they can be refilled. Decades of industry consolidation have left the solid rocket motor (SRM) market in the hands of two suppliers, constraining the capacity of our defense industrial base to scale production when it matters most. Anduril’s answer: the Mississippi Solid Rocket Motor Complex, a 450-acre SRM campus that builds scale and resiliency into the defense supply chain, enabling lower- and upper-tier interceptors to reach the hands of the warfighter faster.

Anduril built the SRM factory from first principles, backed by over $100 million of its own capital and $58 million in Defense Production Act funding. Those investments have yielded a modern facility designed for the demands of programs like IFPC-2, and the volume required to support existing and future programs simultaneously. At the center of the facility sits a bladeless high-speed mixer — the only one of its kind in the world — alongside a manufacturing line that runs multiple production steps in parallel to cut build times, offering the flexibility to build multiple motor configurations on a single line.

The Boeing-Anduril solution pairs advanced manufacturing with the technical capability the mission requires. At the core of the interceptor is a SRM manufactured by Anduril, built to deliver enhanced performance by leveraging propulsion technologies already proven across existing Anduril SRM programs. The interceptor combines Boeing seeker technology and compact airframe with Anduril’s reliable, high-performing SRM to deliver a mass producible, high-performance, midrange interceptor. The interceptor targets an engagement radius covering the midrange band between short-range point defense and long-range systems reserved for the highest-value targets.

Anduril began tackling this problem in 2024, partnering with Boeing to explore technologies that could be prototyped for IFPC Increment 2 Second Interceptor. This latest award validates the Boeing-Anduril team’s initial work and drives it into the next phase of competition: detailed design, system development, integration, and demonstration, culminating in a competitive capability demonstration against Army requirements.
