General Dynamics Mission Systems announced it was awarded a $14.3 million contract modification by the U.S. Navy to exercise options for the Mining Expendable Delivery Unmanned Submarine Asset (MEDUSA) prototype systems, software development, Ashore Support Equipment and Engineering Services.
MEDUSA is an advanced, submarine-launched delivery system that uses an expendable unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) to deploy diverse payloads with precision. The system is purpose-built to meet the U.S. Navy’s stringent requirements for long-range offensive mining capability, while offering the flexibility to host additional payloads, enhancing its operational utility across a broad range of maritime missions. This contract modification exercises options under the previously awarded contract for MEDUSA prototypes and support equipment. Naval Sea Systems Command, Washington, D.C. is the contracting activity.
Work will be performed in Quincy and Taunton, Massachusetts, and is expected to be completed by July 2028.
