Indra Group Presents its AESA MTR Radar on a Rheinmetall Truck at Eurosatory

Indra Group is presenting its 100% AESA MTR radar family for the first time at an international defence trade fair. One of the most advanced solutions on the market, it has been designed to respond to new operational scenarios shaped by high-intensity conflicts, in which the battlefield is becoming increasingly transparent due to the adversary’s enhanced detection and response capabilities.

In this context, the MTR family, which is on display at Eurosatory on a Rheinmetall HX 8×8 unprotected truck, combines high mobility with ultra-rapid deployment and redeployment, a critical factor for quickly changing position and avoiding enemy fire.

It is also a multi-mission system designed to perform counter-battery, air surveillance and coastal surveillance functions. This versatility enables armies to adapt quickly to the situation, reducing the number of systems they need to deploy and thereby lowering the associated logistical footprint.

Active electronically scanned array (AESA) technology, a fully digital architecture, 4D capabilities to accurately track projectile trajectories, and operating modes optimized for each type of threat place this family among the most advanced on the market. This is complemented by the use of gallium nitride (GaN) in its electronics, which increases the system’s power, efficiency and resilience in extreme operating conditions.

According to Juan José Rodríguez, Business Development Manager for Land Systems at Indra, “the MTR radar family has been designed from the ground up to adapt to an operational environment that has undergone profound transformation. In this environment, the emergence of new threats, such as drones and very high-speed missiles, demands maximum agility and precision in detecting and tracking targets for neutralization, while the proliferation of sensors capable of revealing the system’s presence makes it necessary to remain in constant motion by changing position”.

Adapted to each army’s needs
The MTR family is available in two configurations, adapted to the different operational needs of different countries and armies.

The MTR 5 is a medium-range radar designed primarily for counter-battery missions aimed at countering artillery, projectiles or drones. It can also perform air or coastal surveillance tasks by switching mode. It includes a control position that enables it to operate autonomously or be integrated into a radar network.

The MTR 10 is the longer-range version, optimized for air surveillance and directly dependent on air command and control (AirC2) systems, either as a reinforcement or gap filler for airspace surveillance coverage, or associated with Ground-Based Air Defence (GBAD) systems, whether in Surface-to-Air Missile Operations Centre (SAMOC) roles or in weapon system command and control (GBAD).

Indra Group is continuously evolving this radar family, ensuring that users have access to state-of-the-art technological capabilities that enable them to maintain their operational advantage on the battlefield. MTR radars are fully integrated with Indra’s Ground-Based Air Defence Command and Control systems (SBAMD-AIRDEF SAMOC), creating a complete solution for detecting, tracking and responding to different types of threats.
