Dronamics has been selected as an enabler of the adoption of innovative air mobility (IAM) in Europe as part of the new Horizon Europe-funded project PEGASUS (Piloting European Green Air Mobility and Services for Urban Societal Readiness). Europe stands in front of two choices – choose itself by supporting and adopting European advanced aerospace technology or become an importer and user of such technology, made and possibly controlled from overseas.
Dronamics was founded with a vision to transform the way the world moves goods by air and remains the only pioneer of large cargo drones in Europe. The technological and operational know-how gained over years of iterating and testing places us in a great position to contribute to the adoption of autonomous aviation in Europe.
As one of PEGASUS’ consortium industrial partners, our contribution of flight data will shape the project’s findings. Led by Trinity College Dublin, together with 18 organizations across Europe including researchers, city authorities, societal scientists and leading air mobility operators, we will work to accelerate the safe, sustainable and socially accepted deployment of innovative air mobility in Europe.
We will contribute mission and operational data from our flagship drone, the Black Swan, to support the development of a pioneering Societal Readiness Score (SRS). The Black Swan’s unmatched capabilities, such as its large size, high-payload and long-range, make it the only drone of its class in Europe that can provide meaningful data. The data provided will be essential for the development of the project’s framework and will contribute to a comprehensive methodology for evaluating public acceptance and broader social impacts of IAM, assessing key factors such as safety, noise, privacy, energy performance and climate impact.
Another key focus of the PEGASUS project is to explore how drones can be safely and responsibly integrated into everyday life. Through data collection flights carried out by Dronamics and other consortium drone partners, the project will measure local public acceptance through direct engagement with communities, local citizens and stakeholders.
The project’s findings will be the basis for developing practical decision-support tools to help policymakers identify under what conditions IAM services are most likely to gain public acceptance. PEGASUS will also deliver guidance on the infrastructure required to support IAM operations and services providing practical recommendations, planning frameworks and clear roadmap for responsible deployment of IAM.
